The northbound lanes of I-57 were blocked near Kinmundy for a portion of the day Monday.

A semi driven by a Texas man flipped over on its side about a mile south of the Kinmundy interchange around 10am. The driver told authorities he fell asleep. The rig ran off the road and the driver overcorrected in trying to get the truck back under control. The rig then blew a tire, causing the unit to flip over.

The driver was not injured, but a passenger was taken to Salem Public Hospital for evaluation.

Both northbound lanes were closed for about a half hour, but it was almost 4:30pm before the other lane could be cleared. The contents of the rig had to be off-loaded before it could be removed.

Illinois State Police, the Marion County Sheriff's Department, and the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Department assisted at the scene.
