Teutopolis school board members Monday approved a fundraising plan to beef up the district's technology network.

It had been decided in recent months that the district technology needed improved, but it was also decided that funding for the effort should come from outside sources. On Monday, the school board approved the plan proposed by the "Techtopolis Finance Committee."

The district is working to provide the necessary technology and skills to engage 21st Century learners, enhance the collaboration between students and staff, and equip students to be successful in college or career.

Board members also voted to re-hire principals for the 2015-16 school year, with salaries to be determined at a later date. The Board also accepted retirements from several teachers, including Janice Ochs as of the end of the current school year, Bill Schnabel as of the end of the 2015-16 school year, Cathy Esker as of the end of the 2017-18 school year, and Steve Fritcher as of the end of the  2017-18 school year. The Board also accepted Cathy Esker's resignation as In-Touch sponsor, and agreed to advertise for a fulltime Art teacher at the high school and the junior high school for next school year.

Board members heard a presentation from the FFA Alumni Association; employed summer workers including Melinda Bloemer, Darlene Unkraut, Tess Borries, Josh Cottrill, Teri Heuerman, Cheryl McLeod and Dan Blankenship; and hired Don Zerrusen as a regular route bus driver, Tim Mills as varsity volleyball coach, and Cheryl McLeod as junior high track coach. Kate Willey was approved as a volunteer high school track coach.

The Board approved the summer library program on Tuesdays from June 2 through July 21; tabled the renewal of a five-year lease on copiers; purchased new financial software through from SDS for the Unit office; and got reports on Kindergarten registration, school nursing services for next school year, employee health insurance, and a proposed Lake Land College vocational building.
