Dieterich school board members Monday discussed problems caused by the recent heavy snowfall.

The Board amended the school year calendar to reflect the use of a snow day on February 17. The last day of student attendance will now be May 20.

Board members also got a report on damage to the FFA greenhouse done during the February snowfall. The weight of the snow caused the roof of the structure to collapse. The insurance adjuster has inspected the damage and the District is awaiting final word from the insurance company regarding the claim.

Also Monday, the Dieterich board entered into a co-operative purchasing agreement that lowers the overall cost of kitchen and janitorial supplies, agreed to renew the District's catastrophic student insurance plan through AIG and the Voluntary Student Accident Insurance Plan through Guarantee Trust Life, and heard that the District received an almost $600 premium refund after a good workers compensation insurance audit.

The Board accepted a letter from school psychologist Amy Miller that she would not renew her contract for the coming school year as she is moving out-of-state, and received an update from Elementary Principal Kathy Pattenaude regarding the upcoming pre-school screening and kindergarten pre-registration. 76 children are scheduled to be screened and 42 of those are eligible for kindergarten. Pattenaude also reported on the upcoming PTO Carnival set for March 27.

The Dieterich board hired Kelly Davis as junior high Scholastic Bowl coach and accepted a letter from Mindy Worman as junior high volleyball head coach and high school volleyball assistant coach. Also, Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson reported that the governor's proposed budget calls for an increase in general school funding of $300 million, a 6.7% increase.
