A Mt. Vernon man is being held after his arrest on a series of charges in Effingham Thursday night.

Effingham City Police arrested 42-year-old James R. Walker on counts of home invasion, mob action and aggravated assault. City Detective Todd Ebbert said police were called to a residence in the 3000 block of South Banker at 10:30pm. The resident said a group of people were at the front door, trying to get into the residence. Police responded to the scene but, in the meantime, Walker entered the residence.

Walker was in custody today at Effingham County Jail.  It was unclear whether Walker would make his court apperance today.
