A Jasper Unit school bus collided with a car Thursday, injuring a passenger in the car.

The crash happened at 12:01pm on Illinois 130 at County Road 1750, north of Newton at Rose Hill. State police report the bus stopped on 1750th and then attempted to cross Route 130, into the path of a car driven by a 62-year-old man from Oswego, Illinois.

When the units collided, a passenger in the car, a 59-year-old woman from Oswego, was injured and was taken by ambulance to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney for treatment. There were four juvenile passengers on the school bus, but they were not injured.

The driver of the bus, 75-year-old Ronald B. Maxon of Newton, was cited for failure to yield. Maxon was not injured.

The name of the person injured was not released by State Police due to some new rules in Springfield that are still being finalized.

Jasper Unit 1 Superintendent Dan Cox said the students involved were examined at the scene and then were transferred home on another bus with their principal and "smiles on their faces".
