Rotary's motto is "Service Above Self". That service can include partnering with other people-helping agencies. One of those is Habitat for Humanity, an organization dedicated to making decent affordable housing available to people around the world.

There is a local chapter of Habitat in Effingham County. The group has helped build 11 homes in the county to date.

The local Habitat chapter takes applications from those interested in buying a house and then works with them to get the home built. The homeowner has to pay for the house and has to work on the construction project.

Effingham Noon Rotarian Dave Faller is a supporter of the local Habitat chapter. Faller asked Habitat board member Robert West to share information about the organization with Noon Rotarians at their January 28 meeting.

Rotarians also welcomed weekly student guest Natalie Goeckner, the daughter of Susan and Brock Goeckner and a senior at St. Anthony High School.
