On the anniversary of the US Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, local Congressman John Shimkus Thursday voted for House Rule 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015.

Shimkus explained, "For decades, Congress has relied on various amendments to spending bills--most notably the Hyde Amendment--to prohibit taxpayer funded abortions. Those amendments must be passed year after year to keep the policy in place. This legislation would establish a more permanent, government-wide prohibition against taxpayer funded or subsidized abortions and insurance plans that cover them."

House Rule 7 also seeks to provide consumers more information about abortion coverage in the health insurance plans they're required to purchase under Obamacare.

For the 114th Congress, Shimkus is a co-sponsor of several other pro-life bills including: House Rule 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and House Rule 217, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. He also plans to again co-sponsor the Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act and the Health Care Conscious Rights Act when they are re-introduced.
