Local Congressman John Shimkus voted with the majority Wednesday on legislation to defund executive actions by President Obama concerning immigration, and prohibits the use of funds to enact similar immigration policies in the future.

Shimkus said the votes on amendments to the funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security put the brakes on what he termed the President's "unconstitutional actions" while giving Homeland Security "the resources they need to secure our borders."

Items included in the legislation passed Wednesday include funding to support 21,370 border agents and 23,775 CBP officers, and a large increase in funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement including funding to sustain detention beds and increasing family detention.
