Dieterich school board members Monday approved a resolution in support of Illinois Vision 20/20, an educational initiative.

Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson said Vision 20/20 is a plan developed by educators focused on creating an educational system that meets the needs of all students in Illinois public schools.

The Teutopolis and Altamont school boards also endorsed the initiative at their meetings Monday night.

The Dieterich board heard from junior/senior high school principal Kevin Haarman that their Yearbook staff had achieved a milestone. The Dieterich High School Yearbook has been selected to be a national sample for the Balfour Yearbook Company. Haarman said only 2% of all publications receive this recognition each year. Kip Johnson is the Yearbook sponsor.

Haarman also reported on the Christmas basketball tournaments at Dieterich, where the boys won the championship and the girls took second place honors. Haarman said tournament profits were up and expenses were down, which increased the amount of revenue that is split among all of the participating schools.

The Board also approved including earthquake coverage in the District's insurance plan, and approved a Family and Medical Leave Act leave for high school Math teacher Hayley Pals, who will be on maternity leave.
