The filing period has ended for Effingham City Council with three candidates for mayor and eight for one of the four commissioner seats.

The three mayoral candidates are Jeff Bloemker, Herman "Junior" Willis and Larry Micenheimer. Micenheimer, who served as a commissioner from 2007 to 2011, was an unsuccessful candidate for mayor in 2011.

The eight candidates for the four commissioner seats are incumbents Brian Milleville and Don Althoff and Mayor Merv Gillenwater, along with Dustin Reardon, Kevin Esker, Kevin Willis, Michael Williamson and Tim Koester. Current commissioners Alan Harris and Matt Hirtzel are not seeking re-election.

A lottery will take place at 1pm on Monday, December 29 to determine ballot position for Bloemker and Willis for mayor, and for Milleville, Althoff, Gillenwater, Reardon, Esker and Kevin Willis for commissioner. All of those individuals filed when the filing period began on December 15 and candidates are listed in the order in which they filed.

Election Day will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 with the newly-elected Council to take office as of May 2015.
