North Clay school board members split Thursday on whether a parent should be suspended for one game for her actions at a junior high basketball contest.

The Board heard evidence regarding a recent incident at a game where a parent confronted cheerleaders to get them to cheer while the sponsor had released them until the next game for which they cheer. The Board also heard from parent Becky Wiley regarding the incident. A motion to suspend Wiley for one junior high game failed on a 3-3 vote, so there will be no punishment.

The Board heard from attorney Melanie Pearce, representing Anthony and Jena Boose, regarding a recent annexation hearing that had passed in their favor to attend North Clay schools beginning with the next school year. The Booses are asking that the switch to North Clay schools be permitted immediately. The North Clay board voted in favor, but the request also has to be approved by the Clay City district they're departing and by the Regional Board of School Trustees.

The Board expelled a student for the remainder of the school year, hired Mary Ann Brown as a substitute bus driver, and accepted the resignation of Joni Cooper as a bus driver as of January 7.

North Clay board members approved a tentative fiscal year tax levy, took no action on a request to start a LARPing Club as the idea has been dropped, and approved the sale of the activity bus for $25,000. A vote to approve a bid for grading, patching and resealing on the district grounds was tabled until more research on the proposal could be done, a request to hold Post Prom off-campus was tabled, and a proposal to replace student lockers in the high school building was tabled.

The Board voted to pursue joining the National Trail Conference beginning with the 2016-17 school year, heard reports from the building principals on the school district report card from the State, and approved a long-term plan for the increased use of technology, Google Classrooms, and Google Docs for instruction beginning with next year's incoming freshman class. Details will be worked out and orientations will be scheduled for students, parents and the community during the upcoming second semester.
