A listener from Louisville let us know Thursday afternoon of a telephone scam. She's knows first-hand about this, as she's one who got phoned.

The listener said a man phoned her about 3pm. She said the man had a heavy foreign accent, but indicated he was from the IRS and directed the woman to send money or else he would have the police sent to her house. She was encouraged to go to a gas station and buy a pay card, that would enable her to send the money, which by the way couldn't then be traced.

The listener knew the matter was a scam; for one thing, the IRS doesn't contact people by phone about such matters, only by mail. She phoned us, and asked us to let you know about the matter.

If you get such a phone call, simply hang up, or notify your local law enforcement agency.
