Recent test scores for the ACT test confirms students at St. Anthony High School are performing above the state average and are being properly prepared for college.

The school recently received the results of ACT scores taken by students who graduated in 2014, and according to the ACT report, St. Anthony High School students received an average score of 24.1, which is more than three points higher than the state average score of 20.7.

“We are pleased with the scores our students received on their ACTs,” said St. Anthony High School Principal Greg Fearday. “The high test scores reaffirm that our teachers and our curriculum are preparing our students for college and the future.”

The ACT test has been established as the college readiness benchmark and tests in four areas, which are English, Mathematics, Reading and Science.

According to the report, St. Anthony High School students scored above the state average in each category, including the following scores: 23.2 for St. Anthony in English, compared to 20.3 for the state; 24.7 in Mathematics, compared to 20.7; 23.2 in Reading, compared to 20.8; and 24.6 in Science, compared to 20.5.

“The scores in the four areas exceed the state average and confirm that our students are properly preparing for the next stage of their education, whether that be at a four-year university, community college or trade school,” said Fearday, who added nearly all of St. Anthony High School graduates attend college after graduation.

The report further showed the school’s average composite scores have been higher than the state’s average for the last five years, with scores including: 24.6 for St. Anthony students in 2010, compared to 20.7 for the state; 23.4 in 2011, compared to 20.9; 24.8 in 2012, compared to 20.9; and 23.8 in 2013, compared to 20.6.

The ACT test uses the scores collected to determine the percentage of students that are ready for college-level coursework, including College English Composition, College Algebra, College Social Science and College Biology.

According to the report, St. Anthony students averaged higher than the state average in all four areas, with the following scores: 85 percent compared to 62 percent in English Composition; 74 percent, compared to 41 percent in Algebra; 58 percent compare to 41 percent in Social Science; and 65 percent in Biology, compared to 35 percent.

“Our administration, teachers and support staff work hard to create a positive learning environment for our students to thrive in,” said Fearday. “We will continue to work as a team with our students and their parents to ensure our students are getting a solid education foundation that will allow them continued success in their academics.”
