(THE CRAB WALK, A TIME-HONORED TRADITION)

Red Ribbon Week has been celebrated in Effingham County for the past 25 years. It's an effort to show young people they can have fun without the use of alcohol and other drugs.

The Effingham Junior High School Student Council hosted a series of activities during the past week. Student Council Sponsor Becky Wilson said the activities included a week-long dress-up competition among the various Home Rooms won by Mrs. Laurie Bohnhoff's group of 6th grade PE students. The prize? A pizza party.

The finale was an obstacle course competition between the classes. The obstacles included the dizzy bat, an over and under course, step drill, in and out of the benches (ask your son or daughter, they'll explain), crab walk and a layup drill.

The 8th graders won the competition with 21 layups in three minutes.

EJHS Principal Bill Myers concluded the day by reminding his students to have fun safely, and to remember to stay away from situations where alcohol and drugs are involved.
