Effingham area manufacturers have identified a need for more skilled welders to fill open positions in their businesses. It's part of the effort to educate high school students and adults to make them more marketable and to fill employment needs in the area.

The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce, Lake Land College and Effingham Unit 40 schools have responded to the request for welders with the purchase of additional welding equipment in order to offer an Adult Welding Class at Effingham High School. The equipment purchases came about through donations from The Alliance and several local businesses.

Local residents and company employees can improve their job skills by attending the welding class at EHS, which will be offered by Lake Land College. The course, Basic Adult Welding, will run from this Thursday, October 23, through December 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8:30pm. The cost is $284.51 plus course fees. Lake Land College has designated the class as: WEL 057 Welding Fundamentals Course, Section #34628.

Those interested need to register immediately to ensure enough participants to justify the class being offered in Effingham.

To register, or for more information, phone Lake Land Academic Coordinator Bryan Burrell at 217-234-5379 or bburrell@Lakeland.cc.il.us.
