An East St. Louis man has been sentenced to prison time for breaking into a house in Effingham.

28-year-old Aaron Broadnax pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of residential burglary in exchange for a six-year sentence. An Effingham County grand jury indicted Broadnax in July in connection with a March burglary. Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said Broadnax entered into a home in the 1000 block of Cardinal Drive intending to commit a theft.

As a first-time convicted felon, Broadnax was ordered to provide a DNA sample for use by law enforcement officials in possible future crime investigation.

Broadnax had been in custody since May.
