An Effingham man is among part of a crew of airmen who took a load of supplies to West Africa this week as part of the battle against Ebola.

Christian McDevitt, son of Mike and Sandy McDevitt, is part of the 37th Airlift Squadron based at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The crew from the 37th Squadron loaded a C-130J Super Hercules and left Tuesday for their first mission in support of Operation United Assistance.

The team of Airmen flying with the aircraft made stops in Spain, Senegal and Liberia, which is one of the most heavily affected areas of the Ebola outbreak in Africa.

Mike McDevitt said he communicated with Christian Thursday evening. Mike said the crew isn't spending much time on the ground in Liberia, just unloading cargo and getting out. He said they are making multiple trips, and will be back there on Friday. They stayed Thursday night in Senegal.
