An Effingham girl escaped serious injury when she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 4pm at the corner of Willow and Jefferson. Police say 11-year-old Kate Hartke of Effingham stepped into the street into the path of a car. The car driven by 27-year-old Charly Lewis of Effingham struck the girl, but did not seriously injure her. In fact, Kate was examined at the scene, but declined to be taken for treatment.

Lewis was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
