Thursday afternoon was something we haven't seen in the Effingham area in quite some time...stormy.
The National Weather Service in Lincoln issued multiple alerts for the area, including a Tornado Warning for the immediate Effingham area. There were no official reports of funnel clouds, but several listeners reported seeing swirling clouds that may have been tornadoes.
We had reports from many listeners that saw dime to quarter-sized hail. Tree limbs and other debris littered and closed some area roadways, and there were scattered reports of some flash flooding.
The weather also affected most school-related activities and sports practices.
The Stewardson Lions Club Tractor Pull was a washout. All activities in the park have were cancelled as well. The Lions Club tells us that everything will go on as planned for Friday and Saturday, with the addition of the tractor pull, originally set for Thursday night, being moved to Sunday at 1pm. The "lunch stand" will open at 11:30am.
The area remains under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8pm this evening. Details are available here.
