The Illinois Department of Transportation announces a ribbon cutting for the newly completed pedestrian/bike bridge over I-57/70 near Fayette Avenue in Effingham. The event will take place Wednesday, October 1st at 4:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting will follow on the east end of the bridge.

Parking will be in the lot just east of the bridge and can be accessed from the Fayette Avenue frontage road. A shuttle will run from the east parking lot of the Effingham Knights of Columbus Building.

The overall lane expansion project was funded by Governor Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now! capital program. Construction on the pedestrian/bike bridge began in Spring 2012. The 16 foot wide, 264 foot long structure will provide a safe route for pedestrians and bicyclists and will provide access to multi-use trails in the Effingham area.

McCarthy Improvement Company and Foley Construction Company of Davenport, Iowa were the prime contractors for this project.
