Six people were injured in a crash at 4th and Santa Monica just after 6:30pm Wednesday.

Effingham city police say a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Shannon Gonzalez-Mendez of Effingham was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Sarah Lueken of Effingham. Police say Gonzalez-Mendez's vehicle was stopped for a distribution of flyers.

Both drivers were injured, along with four passengers in the Gonzalez-Mendez vehicle; 39-year-old Crystal Pocrnich, nine-year-old Anna Cobix, six-year-old Maya Cobix and three-year-old Jada Lira, all of Effingham. All six were taken for treatment to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Both drivers were cited; Gonzalez-Mendez for improper stopping on the roadway, and Lueken for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
