Jasper school board members Thursday voted to issue $2.2 million in funding bonds, with the revenue being used to pay claims against the school district.

A hearing was held on the sale of the funding bonds, and on the sale of $3.5 million in school fire prevention safety bonds, but there was no action on the $3.5 million bond issue.

The Jasper board took action on several personnel items. The Board approved Angie Wetherholt as junior high and high school nurse assistant; approved the resignation of Maria Zumbahlen as 5th and 6th grade volleyball coach; okayed the resignation of Rob Street as bass fishing coach; and approved Sarah Will as a volunteer volleyball coach at the high school. The Board also approved the retirement of Robert White at the end of the school year, and hired Jackie Menke as junior high custodian.

Board members were informed of a public hearing to be held October 9 to hear about a proposed Enterprise Zone for Newton, approved an intergovernmental agreement with Jasper County Ambulance Service for the use of buses in the event of a catastrophe, and approved a list of about 20 individuals who wish to serve as volunteers at Newton Elementary and Ste. Marie Elementary schools.

Three Board members...Fred Huddlestun, Anthony Richards and Mandy Rieman...were recognized as Master Board Members, with Huddlestun having held that status for several years. The Board learned that Ste. Marie Elementary School achieved the Gold Circle of Quality Recognition for the Preschool for All Program from the Illinois State Board of Education, but also learned that due to a No Child Left Behind waiver, districts are no longer under Adequate Yearly Progress.
