St. Elmo resident Levi Mahon has been sentenced to prison on a count of possession with intent to deliver controlled substance.

The 27-year-old Mahon was sentenced to four years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to a Class 2 felony count. He was originally charged with a Class X felony count involving a larger quantity of the substance, Ecstasy, which could have meant up to 30 years in prison.

Effingham city police had information ready for trial that Mahon had agreed to sell the drugs to a confidential informant and that city police arrested Mahon during the transaction.

Another defendant in the case, Matthew Koeberlein of St. Elmo, is slated to go to trial on the original Class X count on December 1.
