Things are back to normal at Newton Community High School after an incident Thursday.

On his school district blog, Jasper Unit 1 Superintendent Dan Cox posted that an incident occurred when an individual gained unauthorized access to the high school building. The blog continues that while inside, the individual's actions warranted immediate removal from the premises and notification of law enforcement. Once the individual was outside of the building, schools were placed on a "soft lockdown". Cox's blog said that means operations continued as normal inside the schools, but students were not allowed outside.

The blog reads that the incident was quickly mitigated by law enforcement. It also shares that specific details cannot be included as not to interfere with the response or any pending investigation into the incident.

Superintendent Cox was out of the district Friday, which is why we depended on the blog for information on the incident. We also have a call into Newton City Police in hopes of obtaining additional information.
