Three people were injured in a crash south of Effingham over the weekend.

The crash occurred at 1:20pm Saturday on Interstate 57 near the Watson-Mason interchange. State police say a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Ruby Warner of Chicago ran off the road, overturned and struck a tree.

Warner and  her passengers, 81-year-old Hercene Johnson of Kennett, Missouri and 64-year-old Thelma Johnson-Galloway of Chicago were all injured and all had to be extricated from the vehicle. Warner had to be airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Urbana. Johnson and Johnson-Galloway were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Warner was cited for improper lane usage.

The interstate was closed for about 20 minutes after the crash to allow Warner to be airlifted from the scene.
