Electric service was knocked out to several customers Thursday evening when a vehicle clipped a power pole.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies report the incident occurred at 5:36pm on West Fayette Road just west of Effingham on the curve leading into the river bottoms. A SUV driven by 31-year-old Dwight Grames, Jr. of Effingham ran off the roadway and struck the pole. The pole snapped, causing the loss of eletric service to customers in the area.

No one in the vehicle was taken for treatment. Grames was cited for improper lane usage and driving while his license is suspended or revoked.
