Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler Tuesday formally charged Nicholas Jackson with armed robbery. The charge stems from the early morning holdup of the Econolodge on West Fayette in Effingham on August 12.

The 24-year-old Toledo resident is alleged to have committed the offense "while armed with a dangerous weapon, a black .380 handgun" and "knowingly took property, being US currency from Econolodge by threatening the imminent use of force to the Econolodge employee.

The charge is a Class X felony, punishable by a sentence of six to 30 years in prison.

Jackson is now being held in Coles County Jail on charges of armed robbery for the alleged holdup of Casey's General Store in Mattoon August 11 and home invasion for allegedly entering a home in Mattoon in March and tying up the family inside the residence.

A co-defendant in the Coles County incidents, 21-year-old Zachary Sapp of Toledo, is not charged in the Econolodge holdup.
