Nokomis resident Nathan Bergin has been sentenced in Shelby County Court to two years in prison.

The 22-year-old Bergin pleaded guilty earlier this month to aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Last October 22, Bergin was arrested by Shelby County sheriff's deputies after a high-speed chase ended with Bergin hiding in a cornfield in the Oconee area. Bergin was finally apprehended after six hours with the assistance of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, Oconee Fire Department, Illinois State Police and local farmers who cut paths in the field to assist in flushing out the suspect.

Bergin received 12 traffic citations including aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving while his license is suspended, speeding 105MPH in a 55MPH zone, and reckless driving.
