Area resident Kylie VanDyke was first runner-up in the recent National American Miss Pageant.

The pageant took place at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. The 18-year-old is the daughter of Kim and Kevin VanDyke.

The National American Miss pageants are held for girls ages 4 to 18 and have five different age divisions. Kylie competed in the teen division along with other girls from across the state. The activities and competitions in the pageants are kept age appropriate and are based on "inner beauty" as well as poise and presentation.

Sponsors include Welty Construction, Serenity, Jim Hawkins, Rylan and Addison Eade, Marie and Jim Lamonds, Michelle Hawkins, Ky and Lori Hemphill, Monte and Susan VanDyke, Kyle and Athena VanDyke and family, Kevin, Kim, Kody and Klay VanDyke, and Roy Taylor Photography.

Kylie's activities while a student at North Clay High School in Louisville included playing guitar, volunteering, baking, spending time with family and friends, walking dogs for the animal shelter and running 5Ks. She was also active in North Clay's Rotary Interact Club.
