In an earlier story, we mentioned that Landfill 33 in Effingham, the local solid waste disposal facility, reported an estimated six years of remaining capacity.

Some area residents have been wondering about the implications of that information, as to what will they do if the landfill reaches capacity?

The answer is that some of the solid waste haulers that serve Effingham County do not use Landfill 33, so there would be no change for those operations. Sutter Sanitation, for example, utilizes sites in DeSoto and Marissa for its solid waste loads.
