Local authorities have been fielding calls concerning bogus meat inspectors in the Dieterich community.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies say they received a report that a white unmarked 15-passenger van was in Dieterich Wednesday and that three men traveling in the van were going door-to-door saying they were meat inspectors and needed inside the homes to inspect the meat in their freezers. The men reportedly were dressed in shorts and cutoff t-shirts. The vehicle reportedly bore Indiana plates.

Authorities say the men are not legitimate inspectors and should not be allowed inside homes. The latest reports were that the men are traveling in the Grove community in the western part of Jasper County sharing the same story.
