Some Effingham residents found leaflets promoting the Ku Klux Klan around town over the weekend.

Effingham City Police Chief Mike Schutzbach said his department began receiving calls about 9pm Saturday about the distribution. Schutzbach said they received 20 phone calls about the leaflets, which were distributed in plastic bags also containing rocks, presumably to keep them from being blown away.

Headed "Save Our Land, Join the Klan", the leaflets contained a phone number and website address to utilize about joining the Klan. One listener said they phoned the number and heard a pre-recorded message containing anti-immigration sentiments.

Schutzbach said they received a description of a vehicle that might have carried people involved in the distribution, but said they were unable to locate the vehicle. He said no criminal acts were reported related to the distribution.
