Effingham Water Authority trustees inspected the beach area at Lake Sara this week and noted the condition of the beach property has improved a great deal.

The Board also voted to reject a proposal from the beach lease holder, Danny Hankins, to lease the peninsula west of the Pearson Building in exchange for the current beach lease. However, the Board agreed to consider leasing a piece of ground east of the campgrounds along the west side of Beach Road in exchange for the beach lease.

Trustee Jim Boos suggested that something to consider for the future is adding more boat slips along the Pearson Building property, next to the beach, so boaters would have access to the beach for swimming and picnics.

The Board also inspected Lot 15 Topp Acres with owner Paul Gutman. A variance of up to 20 feet could be granted pending house plans. It was noted that a boat dock may not fit on the lot due to a narrow cove. The leaseholder was informed that the septic system and gutter drainpipes would need to be moved since they cross the property line. Gutman will put together a plan to present to Lake Superintendent Mike Dirks.

The Board also inspected a residence located on deeded property, with lake access, that is in a state of disrepair. It was determined the home did not present a safety hazard, but a letter will be sent to the owner requesting the property be cleaned up.
