The CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is taking applications for summer energy assistance and will conclude on July 23 or when funds are exhausted.

Appointments are being set on a first-come, first-served basis until the available funding is gone. Due to the brevity of the program, appointments for summer energy assistance will only be accepted by phone or in person; no email, no voice mail, text or written requests can be accepted.

Funding for summer assistance is very limited and the program is targeted to at-risk households, defined as those 60 and older, persons with disabilities, families with children age five or younger, and those with a doctor's certification letter dated within the last 90 days stating that the medical condition would be aggravated by extreme heat. Applications will only be accepted from these at-risk households.

The $150 benefit will be targeted to the household's electrical service. Due to the limited funding, no emergency services, fans, air conditioners or AC repairs will be provided.

Income guidelines for the summer assistance: 1--$1,459...2--$1,966...3--$2,474...4--$2,981. For each additional member add $508.

To make an appointment for summer energy assistance, contact the CEFS Effingham County Outreach Office at 202 North Banker in Effingham, or phone 217-347-7514. If special accommdations are needed for the appointment, they should be arranged with the local CEFS Outreach Office.
