Richard Marschke of Vandalia made a brief appearance in Effingham County Circuit Court Tuesday morning, his first appearance with his court-appointed counsel, Richard Runde.
Marschke is charged with drug induced homicide for allegedly supplying the heroin that led to the death of Jordan Kull of Altamont in January. A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for Wednesday at 1pm.
Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the preliminary hearing is a procedural maneuver to move the case along toward trial.
Marschke is being held in Effingham County Jail under $1 million bond. No trial date has been set.
