Governor Quinn has approved most of the 2015 budget sent to him by state lawmakers, but used his veto powers to slash nearly $250 million from the spending plan.

Quinn said he cut money for repairs to the State Capitol, which caused a stir last year over the huge cost.

The governor added that he has instructed state agencies to make more cuts, including selling almost half of the state's aircraft.

State legislators may override the governor's veto with a three-fifths majority vote in both chambers.
