Flagger Struck in Construction Zone

A flagger was struck by a vehicle Monday in a construction zone along North 3rd Street in Effingham.

City police say an unknown vehicle struck 50-year-old Bret Collman of Ramsey north of the intersection of 3rd Street and Technology Drive at 3:44pm. The vehicle left the scene.

Collman was injured, but refused treatment.

City police are also investigating three incidents of burglary from a motor vehicle either Sunday night or Monday morning.

Burglaries from vehicles owned by Stacy Eskew of Effingham and Michael Osborne of Shumway both occurred between 7:30pm Sunday and 4:40am Monday and both occurred in the 800 block of Shiloh Avenue. Two sets of IPhone headphones were taken from Eskew's vehicle along with a Lifeproof music adapter and an IPhone charger. An ignition key was taken from Osborne's vehicle.

The other incident involved a vehicle owned by Steven Durbin of Effingham, which was parked in the 2500 block of Caroline Street. A garage door opener was stolen sometime between 8pm Sunday and 7:30am Monday. Entry was also gained to the garage. No other items were reported stolen at the time.
