There will likely be some free time between the end of the 4th of July Parade and the start of the 4th of July fireworks in Effingham. The Effingham Knights of Columbus are looking to help fill that time with music and food.

For the second year, the Knights of Columbus will hold a parking lot party on their lot north of the Effingham High School sports complex, the site of the fireworks again this year.

The Sawyer Brothers band will play from 7pm to midnight. There will be hamburgers, porkburgers and hot dogs on the grill and other refreshments starting at 5pm. The playground will be available to the kids, horseshoe pits for the adults, and space for any other outdoor games you'd like to take along.

Parking is first-come, first-served and lawn areas will be reserved for chairs and blankets to watch the fireworks. The event is open to the public.

Any Knights who'd like to help should contact Greg Koester at 821-7731.

There will be a beer garden at the pavilion, and the special liquor license does not allow alcohol to be brought onto the premises, so no coolers.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the 2015 fireworks display.

Speaking of the parade, the deadline has been extended to enter. Entry forms are available at the Central Fire Station at Fayette and Maple, or by phoning City EMA Director Kim Tegeler at 342-5368.

Regarding the fireworks, the Effingham Firefighters Association Local #3084 is still receiving donations for this year's display. The City of Effingham contributed $10,000 and is matching up to another $5,000 for the display. Donations can be deposited in a special account that has been set up at Washington Savings Bank. You can mail contributions to the Association at PO Box 964, Effingham, IL 62401. 100% of the donations received are reserved for the fireworks display.

A reminder that the rain date for the City of Effingham fireworks display will be Sunday, July 6. Parking is available in the high school parking lot as well as Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The home side of the football bleachers will be available for seating. No alcohol or tobacco will be permitted on school grounds.
