The C. E. F. S. Economic Opportunity Corporation's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin taking applications for summer energy assistance on July 7 and will conclude on July 23, or when funds are exhausted.

Appointments for the first day of the program could be scheduled on July 3rd. Appointments will be set on a first come, first serve basis until the available funding is gone.

Due to the brevity of the program appointments for summer energy assistance will only be accepted by phone or in person; no e-mail, voice mail, text or written requests can be accepted.

Funding for summer assistance is very limited and the program is targeted to at-risk households, defined as seniors (age 60 & above), persons with disabilities, families with children age 5 or younger, and those with a doctor's certification letter dated within the last ninety days stating that the medical condition would be aggravated by extreme heat. Applications will only be accepted from these at-risk households.

The $150 benefit will be targeted to the household's electrical service. Due to the limited funding, no Emergency Services, fans, air conditioners or AC repairs will be provided.

Income guidelines for the summer assistance are as follows: 1-$1,459; 2 -$1,966; 3-$2,474; 4-$2,981. For each additional member add $508.

To make an appointment for summer energy assistance contact the C. E. F. S Effingham County Outreach office at 202 N. Banker St., Effingham, phone 217-347-7514. If special accommodations are needed for the appointment they should be arranged with the local C. E. F. S. Outreach office.
