It was thought Peter Manzi might be around long-term as band director at Effingham High School, but it hasn't turned out that way.

Manzi submitted his resignation Tuesday after just one year in Unit 40.  He's headed to Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, California.

Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan said the position was posted Wednesday morning as the district begins efforts to get a successor in place as soon as possible, what with Band Camp rapidly approaching and a new school year just two months away.

Doan said of Manzi's departure, "It was kind of a surprise; we think highly of Peter and thought he might have long-term potential."

Manzi was hired after a tenure at Central A&M High School.  He was selected to succeed Brad Wallace when Wallace was hired for an instructor's position at the University of Illinois.
