The Effingham County Habitat for Humanity chapter quietly continues its work of providing decent, affordable housing throughout the county.

The dedication of the 12th Habitat home in the county is scheduled for this Sunday at 2pm in Dieterich.

Effingham County Habitat board member Larry Lappin said the newest home is located 1-1/2 blocks east of the Subway Restaurant in Dieterich, north of Illinois Route 33.

Becky Langford is the latest Habitat recipient, and she and her family...a 20-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter...have worked on the home during construction and have to purchase the home, although at cost.

Lappin said Langford was #2 on the list when the previous Habitat home was built next door to the newest home and said she'd like to stay on the list when the next home was built.

The public is invited to attend the dedication.

Lappin said the dedication will be the culmination of a big weekend for Habitat.  A golf outing to benefit the county Habitat chapter will be held Friday at Effingham Country Club, with lunch at 11am and the tournament to follow.  He said there might still be room for some additional players.

The golf outing will be followed Saturday by a car show and motorcycle show at Legacy Harley Davidson from 10am to 5pm.

Lappin said as soon as construction of a home is concluded, the fundraising for the next Habitat home begins.
