One person was killed and several were injured in a head-on collision north of Effingham Sunday afternoon.  Names are now available of those involved in the crash.

The crash occurred at 3:10pm on US Route 45, two miles north of town near Mid America Motorworks.  State police report a southbound vehicle driven by 73-year-old Harold Hartke of Teutopolis swerved across the centerline after Harkte lost consciousness.  The vehicle continued off the roadway and onto the shoulder.  A northbound vehicle driven by 47-year-old Dennis K. McMahon of Toledo tried to avoid the southbound unit and swerved left about the time the southbound vehicle tried to correct and pull back to the right and the units collided head-on.

One person was fatally injured, 11-year-old Torie McMahon, who was a passenger in the Dennis McMahon vehicle.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harold Hartke and Dennis McMahon were both injured in the crash and were taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.  Also injured were passengers in Harold Hartke's vehicle: 48-year-old Richard Hartke of Carterville, 13-year-old Rachel Hartke of Carterville, and 69-year-old Mary Hartke of Teutopolis.  They were each taken to St. Anthony's for treatment.

Two passengers in Dennis McMahon's vehicle were injured: 41-year-old Tracy McMahon and nine-year-old Dennis McMahon, both of rural Toledo.  Tracy and Dennis McMahon were airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment.

Illinois State Police and State Police Accident Reconstruction Officers are investigating the crash along with the Effingham County Coroner's Office.

A fund has been set up for the McMahon family at the First National Bank of Dieterich.
