Railroad Crossings to be Made Safer

The Illinois Commerce Commission has released plans for railroad grade crossing improvements.  A number of crossings in Effingham County are among those to be improved as part of the five-year plan.  $9.58 million is projected to be sepnt on crossing improvements in the coming fiscal year.

Warning lights and gates are scheduled for CSX crossings on Conner Road and Berkheimer Road at Altamont, and surface reconstruction is planned on Barlow Road, along with work on S. 4th Street in Sigel.  Signals and gates along with new approaches is planned on 1400th Avenue near Altamont, on 1800 North at Altamont, on 2000 East at Dieterich, on 1700 North at Teutopolis, and on 1600 East at Effingham, along with Jackson Avenue in Altamont and 1300 North at Altamont.
