Four people riding in a stolen car were injured in a crash on Effingham's north end Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at 7:31am on I-57/70 adjacent to Legacy Harley-Davidson.  Initial reports were that the driver of the semi involved in a crash with a car was taken from the scene in cuffs.  That was incorrect.  Instead, the driver of the car and two passengers were arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle.

State police say that a semi driven by 59-year-old Larry Lane of Rosedale, Virginia was following a car driven by 20-year-old Frederick Wicks of Memphis, Tennessee when the car began weaving back and forth on the lanes of travel.  At one point, the back driver's door of the car came open and the passenger by the door, 17-year-old Iesha Moore of Memphis, Tennessee, fell out of the vehicle and onto the roadway.  The semi driver pulled off onto the shoulder of the roadway in an attempt to avoid a collision, but state police say the car came to a stop and the semi rear-ended the car, forcing it off the roadway and up onto an embankment.

Iesha Moore was initially taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment and then was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana.  Other passengers...19-year-old Precious Hill, 21-year-old Jasmine Bolden and 19-year-old Jerrica Farmer...all of Memphis, were treated at St. Anthony's.

The driver of the car, Frederick Wicks, as well as Precious Hill, Jasmine Bolden and Jerrica Farmer, were arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle.  Wicks was also cited for improper lane usage and no valid driver's license.

Lane, the semi driver, was not injured.
