State Police Secure Over 5 Kilos of Heroin

Illinois State Police officials are commending the work by District 11 troopers following the seizure of over 5-1/2 kilos of heroin during a traffic stop.  Troopers discovered the narcotics hidden in an engine compartment specifically designed to elude law enforcement.  

The estimated street value of the heroin is between $125,000 and $250,000.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop last Friday morning along I-55 due to improper display of a license plate.  The trooper who made the stop noticed the driver, 46-year-old Rodolfo Hernandez-Flores of Tijuana, Mexico, was unusually nervous.  The trooper asked for assistance from a bi-lingual trooper who speaks Spanish.  His answers led to a request for a K9 unit and the dog hit on the vehicle.  A search located the hidden compartment.

Flores later admitted he was paid to transport the heroin, which originated in Tijuana, and was destined for Columbus, Ohio.  He was arrested on a count of possession with intent to deliver heroin and issued a warning for the license plate infraction.
