Altamont resident Jay Miller, charged earlier this week with drug induced homicide, will now go on trial in May.

The 22-year-old Miller was slated to be tried beginning next Monday on his original charge of possession of a controlled substance.  He was charged this past Monday with the drug induced homicide count, alleging he gave Jessica James of Effingham the heroin she used that led to her death.

Miller's trial is now set to begin May 5, with a pre-trial hearing on any pending motions scheduled for April 30.

Drug induced homicide is a Class X felony punishable by anywhere from 15 to 30 years in prison.
