A new weekly newspaper will make its debut next week.

The Effingham-Teutopolis News Report will arrive in mailboxes on Thursday, August 2.  The owner/publisher is Steve Raymond, the former publisher of the Effingham Daily News.

Raymond said he's thought for a long time about the venture and talked with a number of people in the community before moving forward.  He's been around newspapers all of his life; his father operated a weekly newspaper in central Illinois for 50 years.

In addition to the weekly publication, Raymond promises a daily website,, will be updated several times a day.  He also said that whatever customers want to contribute to the publication will be used.

Raymond said the paper will be different in that it will arrive in mailboxes free to readers.  He said it's no secret that subscriptions to publications are in decline, so he plans to operate the paper with revenue from ads.

As to the staff, Raymond is utilizing several former Daily News employees and one newcomer.   The paper will be printed by the Decatur Herald and Review.
