Community members from the area are banding together to help spread the word about the drug and alcohol usage in the Altamont, St. Elmo, and surrounding areas.

The event is titled "Connect and Protect". The topic will vary from night to night but all will focus on the drug and alcohol problem facing our youth and the community.

The second event will take place at the Altamont Christian Church on Tuesday, March 25, at 6:30 p. m. Each forum features a different presenter and a different topic of discussion.

Guest speaker for the March 25 event is Barbara Barr. Barb grew up in Indiana and faced many situations during her childhood. She is currently writing a book about her life, from a childhood in a brothel to becoming a Christian, and Women's Ministry leader in her local church. Barb will share her testimony and triumph over drugs, and the ways to help family members who struggle with addictions. She will also share how she is using faith to help others overcome addictions, shame, guilt, and fear.

A representative from State Senator Kyle McCarter's office will also address the forum. Republican candidate for Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon will also be present.

Any parent; Jr high/high school students and concerned community members are encouraged to attend. You're encouraged to bring any and all questions.
