Dieterich school board members amended the current school year calendar at this week's meeting, reflecting the use of an additional emergency day due to bad weather.

The District has used nine emergency days so far this year.  The final day of student attendance will be May 30, and Teacher Institute will be June 2.

The Board approved next year's calendar.  A Teacher Institute on August 15 will be followed by the first day of student attendance on August 18.

The Board learned that District Librarian Mary Richars applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office.  The grant is to be used to purchase library materials and activities.

The Board accepted a $354 donation from Kenny Miller of Hometown Pizza and Domino's Pizza of Effingham for the athletic programs at Dieterich, and pledged $250 toward the Vision 2020 Community Celebration of Excellence Breakfast at Dieterich High School on April 10.

Board members agreed to participate in the SEPCO purchasing cooperative and approved a facility use request from Dieterich Park District for use of the school cafeteria as a backup facility for its toddler gym class.

The Dieterich board approved a contract for psychologist and social worker services for next school year, and hired Darren Campton as high school boys baseball coach for next school year.

Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson reported that news is uncertain from Springfield on the budget for next school year.  Jackson said the latest is that K-12 education could experience additional funding cuts in the near future.
