The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Monday took action on several personnel items.
The Board had decided last month to add a section of Kindergarten at the Early Learning Center. Alyssa Nelson was hired last night to teach in that classroom.
Board members also acted to fill several slots on the football coaching staff. Mike Walker, Jerrod Ingram and Cody Harpster were hired as paid assistants, while Matt Murfee, Dustin Lustig, Jordan Jastering and Josh Douthit were approved as volunteer assistants. Todd Ventors was approved as defensive co-ordinator to work with varsity coach Mike McDonald, and Eric Lux was already on the Unit 40 teaching staff and will continue working as an assistant coach.
Other coaching slots were filled; Harpster was hired as the new varsity wrestling coach; Jerry Trigg will return to coach girls golf and softball; Robbie Cornell was again named boys tennis coach; and Angela Woods was hired to again coach girls tennis while Alexandra Meyer also was hired as girls tennis coach and Lisa Hoekstra was approved as a volunteer high school girls tennis coach. Colleen Westendorf was hired as assistant high school volleyball coach and Jill Kistner was approved as a volunteer high school volleyball coach. Troy Van Blaricum was hired as an assistant girls basketball coach, Walker was also rehired as 7th grade boys basketball coach, Steve Boswell was hired as frosh/soph baseball coach and Ron Diehl was approved as a volunteer high school assistant baseball coach. Also, Jeff Tonn was hired as a junior high assistant softball coach, Matt Farrar was hired as a junior high assistant baseball coach, Whitney McWilliams was hired as eighth grade girls basketball coach, and Steve Pickett was hired as assistant junior high boys track coach.
Megan Woodard's resignation as junior high softball coach was accepted; a replacement is pending an interview by the individual for a job in another district.
Christie Curry was hired as a special education instructor at South Side School, and Jane Wise was hired as a part-time librarian at South Side.
The Board also accepted a resignation from Brandi Kelly as a junior high guidance counselor and Mustang Outreach sponsor; she will serve as principal at Ramsey schools. A resignation was also accepted from Derek Harris as high school assistant boys and girls track coach.
Board members also approved a revised retirement for teacher Debra Gregory to the end of the 2013-2014 school year; and voted to approve a reduction in force for Andria Verdeyen as a part-time secretary and Ruby Allen as a part-time custodian due to a decision not to offer a previously offered service through the district.
In other business, the Board named Carol Ruffner as the Unit 40 representative on the Eastern Illinois Area Special Education board; Todd Schafer was named the alternate.
